IoT and predictive maintenance in Facility and Energy Management

Predictive maintenance and IoT are two key elements for intelligent and optimised management of Facility and Energy Management services.

They are an opportunity to improve efficiency of the operation and maintenance of your building's systems. But what is predictive maintenance? What are the benefits? How can IoT technology support plant maintenance?

Predictive maintenance is a type of proactive maintenance, which attempts to foresee possible damage to the building’s systems (i.e., thermo-mechanical, electrical, special system, etc.) in order to intervene before it happens. With this in mind, the use of technology is essential to collect real-time data on the system’s performance and health, so as to detect functional anomalies before they occur.

Technology contributes a huge advantage to predictive maintenance because many interventions can be predicted well in advance thanks to the application of IoT sensors, AI and the use of dedicated software. By analysing real-time data remotely, it is possible to predict the problem and its severity, so that maintenance staff can intervene effectively to anticipate the problem, significantly reducing the cost of a failure intervention and increasing the lifecycle of the systems.

IoT and predictive maintenance

The Industrial Internet of Things is the basis for predictive maintenance to monitor system performance. These are mapped and linked to software which, based on artificial intelligence, analyses the data collected on system operations, reporting its health status to the operations team. In fact, machine learning makes it possible to define the system’s optimal conditions and to send a warning signal to inform us when conditions are not aligned with our expectations.  Dedicated platforms, such as Fervo Group's FEAMS®, are used to visualise and analyse the parameters collected, displaying the data in customised dashboards, which can be used to optimise operations and reduce consumption, with the added effect of reducing related costs.

The Fervo Group and predictive maintenance

The benefits of predictive maintenance carried out by us at Fervo Group are manifold. By continuously monitoring proper system operation through the FEAMS® digital platform, we can avoid sudden plant shutdowns by intervening before the problem occurs. All this serves to optimise the operation and maintenance process of your engineering system, avoiding breakdowns and the associated extra costs, thus extending the lifecycle of your asset.

The FEAMS® platform also allows real-time monitoring of your system's energy consumption, and possible improvements to enhance its efficiency, leading to a reduction in your building's energy costs.
