Carate Brianza becomes Smart

Not only big cities, but also small and medium-sized municipalities can rethink their infrastructure to become more sustainable and “Smart”.
A clear example of this is the Municipality of Carate Brianza, in Lombardy, which was supported by our experts from Eco2zone to adhere to a call for tenders issued by the Lombardy Region on sustainable mobility.

► the request

The need was to support the Municipal Administration in applying for funding for the Lombardy Region's call for tenders “Electric recharging infrastructure for public bodies 2021”.

For years, the Municipality of Carate Brianza has shown deep interest in the theme of innovation and redevelopment of the territory, being aware of the benefits that the integration of technology in services dedicated to citizens can bring.

► OBJECTIVE: “SMART” COMMUNITY SERVICES

Embracing digitisation to provide citizens with a state-of-the-art service

Thanks to our expertise in design and technology, we helped the Municipality to make a widespread network of charging points for electric cars available in the area, as a first step towards greater integration of digital technologies in the urban context.

► THE ACTIVITY PERFORMED

The expertise of our Eco2zone specialists supporting the Municipality of Carate Brianza

Eco2zone, an E.S.Co. of the Fervo Group, provided technical support to the Municipality of Carate Brianza for the feasibility study needed to participate in the call for tenders and qualify for funding.

After winning the tender launched by the Municipality to select the partner that would complete the project, Eco2zone installed 5 charging stations for electric vehicles with dual charging points (22 kW - 22 kW), for a total of 10 dedicated parking spaces. The work was completed with the necessary vertical and horizontal signage and the graphic customisation of the columns to highlight the contribution of the Lombardy Region.

Project considerations

The choice of Eco2zone as the sole partner was dictated by the technical and operational capabilities of our company, which allowed the Municipality to interface with a single contact person for the different aspects of the project. In addition, the professional expertise of our specialists made it possible to speed up the submission of tender documentation, which the Public Administration appreciated considerably.

For the Carate Brianza, the implementation of this project is an important first step towards creating a network of charging stations available to citizens and municipal employees using electric vehicles to perform their services.

Technology in urban settings

Studies show that the use of digital technologies in urban settings leads to a 10-30% increase in several quality-of-life indicators. The recent report published by the McKinsley Global Institute, conducted in 50 cities around the world, highlighted how technology can improve quality-of-life indicators, such as environment, traffic, safety and health.

The numbers considered suggest that if all technologies and applications were already implemented and finalized towards creating Smart City systems, cities would now be achieving 70% of the sustainable development goals set forth by the United Nations.

“We are proud to have taken an active part in this Smart Mobility project by supporting the Municipality in taking its first concrete steps towards “smart” and sustainable services for citizens”

The city of the future: EcoSmart City

The Carate Brianza project is just one of the initiatives undertaken by Eco2zone. In fact, we are involved in several projects with EcoSmart City, our line of innovative products and solutions aimed at optimising and innovating services for citizens with a view to connect city infrastructures with human, intellectual and social capital through the use of innovative technologies.

All our proposals adhere to the Minimum Environmental Criteria (CAM in Italian) defined within the framework of the Plan for the Environmental Sustainability of Consumption in the Public Administration sector, and are adopted by decree of the Ministry for the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea.

We are, therefore, at the forefront in making urban space interactive and smart by addressing different areas to support the development of “smart growth” in all urban contexts.
